Woodrow Wilson Payne

Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Payne. 93, of Scarbro, WV passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV

Born August 12, 1927, in Dothan, WV he was the son of the late Charles Rankin and Della Beatrice Toney Payne.

He was a 1945 graduate from Oak Hill High School, a graduate from diesel mechanic school in Chicago, and a United States Army Veteran who fought during WWII. Woody married the love of his life, Mary Lou Payne, on February 16, 1951, in Pasgoulia, Mississippi and they were married for 69 years.

Woody was a retired welder/mechanic from Long Airdox. A Christian man since 1964, he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He loved hunting and fishing with family and friends.

Preceding him in death were daughter, Kathy Gwen Hahn; brothers, Charles “Jake” Payne and Billy Payne; and sister, Betty Jane O'dell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Mary Lou Payne Payne; daughter, Deanna Lucas (Gerald); son, Charles "Charlie" Payne and companion, Linda Gillis; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, John “Ferd” Toney and Hank Webb.

Graveside service with burial to follow will be 1:00 PM Friday, January 8, 2021 at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating.

Those planning to attend should use proper COVID 19 precautions by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing of 6 feet.

In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be sent to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV, 25801 or Calvary Baptist Church 1424 E. Main Street, Oak Hill WV, 25901.
