William J. Surber

William Joseph Surber, 80, of Columbus, GA, formerly of Oak Hill, WV died December 31, 2010 at the Vista-Care Hospice in Columbus.. Born June 16, 1930 in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Joe and Ursalena Rule Surber. He was also preceded in death by his sister Marguerite.  Bill was an Electrical Engineer and worked internationally for many years with COMSAT and Voice of America.  He was an airplane enthusiast and a member of the Columbus chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He is survived by his son Joseph Garland Surber and his wife Mary Lou of Columbus, GA; daughter Samantha Hackett and her husband Matt of Woodstock, GA; and granddaughters Camille Surber of Columbus, GA and Megan and Katelyn Hackett of Woodstock, GA.  He is also survived by his life long friend and partner in crime Carl Harvey of Oak Hill.   A graveside service will be held at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill, WV at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2011 with Father Roy G.
