William R. "Pa Pa" Bennett

William R. “Pa Pa” Bennett, age 88 of Garten, WV passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Hidden Valley Health Care in Oak Hill. Born December 27, 1920 in Fayetteville, WV, he was the son of the late Elijah Jacob and Annie Mary Shockey Bennett. Mr. Bennett retired from the US Postal Service with over 25 years of service. He served with the US Army during WWII and was a former member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy and E. J. Bennett and by a sister, Adeline Gunter, all of Fayetteville, WV Surviving are his wife, Rachel I. King Bennett of Fayetteville; two sons, William R. Bennett, Jr. of Knoxville, TN and Charles Romeo Bennett and his wife Deana of Oak Hill and a daughter, Margaret Susan Gunther and husband Donald of Roper, NC. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Belinda Groppi and husband Dave of Independence, Ohio, Denise Wilcox and husband Anthony of Robersonville, NC, Karen Arrington and husband Kris of Oak Hill and Kelly Cody of Suffolk,VA; eight great grandchildren, Taylor, Jayden and Rachel Groppi, Jesse, Christopher and Chloe Sullivan. Samantha Wilcox and Kaylee Arrington and a special friend, Robert Jeffries of St. Albans, WV. Special thanks to the staff of Hidden Valley Health Care Center for their wonderful care and kindness. Graveside committal services with burial to follow will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, WV with Pastor Juddie Buckley officiating. Friends may call at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2009.
