William Everett

August 26, 1926 — April 27, 2006

William "Bill" Everett, 79, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV following an extended illness. Born August 26, 1926 at Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Linwood R. Everett and Elora Mae Twiddy Everett Merkley and stepson of the late Arlin A. Merkley. He attended the Apostolic Holiness Church of Oak Hill. Bill left the Union Pacific Railroad Company to enlist in the US Navy in 1943. After the war he served as a police officer for eight years in Norfolk, VA. He retired in 1986 from Martha Washington Hospital, Chicago, IL. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Patsy A. Toney Everett; and his ex-wife, Ethel J. Alrey of Virginia; four sons who enjoyed their many fishing trips to North Carolina with their "dad", Berry L. Everett of Soda Springs, Idaho, William Rodney Everett Ulrey and wife, Paulette of Chicago, IL, William Steven Everett and Marilyn Koch of Ohio, and Derek S. Everett at home; two daughters, Debra Jane Lowery of Staunton, VA and Sherrie Mae Jennings and husband, Gary, of Oak Hill; two brothers, Linwood R. Everett, Jr. of North Carolina and Richard A. Merkley of Florida; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Special mention for Billy Griggs and wife, Tuck, of Mount Hope, Jackie Deal and wife, Pat of Oak Hill and ex-son-in-law, John Buchcannon of Stuarts Draft, VA. Bill was loved by all who knew him. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Funeral, Oak Hill on Saturday, April 29, 2006, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Services will be on Sunday, April 30, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Carlos Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3110, Oak Hill.
