William D. "Bill" Pittman, Sr.

August 19, 1922 — June 1, 2006

William "Bill" Daniel Pittman Sr., 83, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, June 01, 2006 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. He will be missed by all. Born August 19, 1922 at Brooklyn, WV he was the son of the late Alfred and Icey Martin Pittman. He was a disabled World War II US Army veteran and a retired coal miner. Bill was an avid baseball player for area coal camp teams. He loved baseball, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the UMWA District 29 and a life member of the DAV. The family would like to thank the staff of Plateau Medical Center and the Hilltop Healthcare Center for their kindness and care. A son, William Pittman, Jr., a daughter, Donna Pittman and several brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Grace Waugh Pittman; four sons, James "Jim" Pittman and wife, Wanda of Tennessee; Charles "Rocky" Pittman and wife, Lana of Fayetteville, Curtis "Corky" Pittman and wife, Andrea of Oak Hill and William "Butch" Pittman and wife, Susan of Oak Hill; four daughters, Drema Gambill and husband, Tom of Oak Hill, Joyce Conner and husband, Danny of Oak Hill, Lori McDaniel and husband, William, II of Scott Deport and Tammy Darnell and husband, Gary of Beckley; one sister, Angle Spencer of Gauley Bridge. Also surviving are nineteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Sunday, June 4, 2006, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Services will be on Monday, June 5, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Freddie Meadows and Rev. Jackie Pittman officiating. Burial will be at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3110, Oak Hill. The oldest grandsons from each of his children will serve as pallbearers.
