William J. "Bill" Farthing

William "Bill" J. Farthing , 70, of Sophia, WV died on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born May 21, 1939 at Hot Coal, WV he was the son of the late Hubert Franklin and Florence Rebecca Herndon Farthing. Bill was a retired coal miner having worked for Eastern Coal/Peabody and was a plumber's helper for Williams Machanical. He was a US Army veteran. A sister, Betty Johnson and one brother, Louis D. "Sonny" Farthing preceded him in death. Survivors include one daughter, Rafael Gessey of Redondo Beach, CA; grandson, Morgan McGuire of Redondo Beach; six sisters, Mary Moran of Sophia, Margaret Moran of Sophia, Evelyn Jean Henderson and husband, Herbert of Sophia, Dorothy Bedingfield and husband, Bob of Alabama, Linda Hill and husband, Steve of Pennsylvania and Sharon Graziolli of Ohio and three brothers, Hubert Farthing, Jr. and Fran of Tennessee, Robert Farthing and wife, Barbara of Ohio and Jerry Farthing of Tennessee. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Services will be on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the Sophia First Baptist Church with Pastor Charles R. Gilbert officiating.
