William Ray Barton, Sr.

March 21, 1940 — August 8, 2015

William R Barton Sr., 75, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015, after battling complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born on March 21, 1940, in Prenter, WV to the late Charles Barton and Lorena Neal Barton.

He was preceded in death by his beloved long time companion, Claudia Watham.

Survivors are two sons, William Ray Barton Jr., and wife, Dawn of Inwood, and Stephen Charles Barton Sr., of Victor;  brother, Robert C. Barton, Ansted; two sisters, ,Mary Wysong and Peggy Fincher of Victor;  ex-wife, Doris Shoemaker;  six grandchildren, Stacy Barton, Stephen Barton, Jr. and Stuart Barton from Glen Burnie, Maryland and William Barton, III, Alexander Barton and Kayli Barton from Inwood; and two great grandchildren, Charlie and Zoe.

Bill was a member of the Ansted High School State Basketball Champions of 1968.  He was an avid sportsman with a love of golfing and skiing.  His life revolved around his family, friends, working, golfing, skiing and the desire to help anyone in need.

Bill had spent most of his life working in Maryland as a construction supervisor. There he made friends that were still in his heart even until the end.

Later in life he moved back to Victor, WV, and settled in with his longtime companion Claudia who recently lost her life to cancer.

Bill spent his time golfing and skiing with cherished friends.  He will be missed by all that knew him.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 5:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Father Roy Gene Crist officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
