Wanda Marie Bender, 81, of Oak Hill, WV passed away Monday, August 15,2005 after a long illness. She resided at the Summit in Oak Hill, but was a long time resident at Huntington, WV and prior to that Charleston, WV. Born August 21, 1923 at Ward, West Virginia She was the daughter of the late Harry Crowder and Myrtle Linkenhoker Crowder. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband O.L. "John" Bender, and her brothers, Harry Lee Crowder and William "Bill" Crowder. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Surviving are her daughter Susan and her husband, Carlos Plumley of Oak Hill; her son Richard Bender and his wife, Alison Frost of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and their son Hugh Bender attending Wake Forest University, all of whom she was very proud. She is also survived by one brother, Bobby N. Crowder of Radcliff, KY. Marie was a telephone switchboard operator in Charleston, WV and in Pittsburgh, P. She worked much of her early married life but settled down to being homemaker in later years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Huntington and in Oak Hill. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 18, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston, West Virginia. Services will be performed by Rev. Delmas Wolfe, pastor of Page Baptist Church and a cherished friend of Marie and Sue.
