Walter George Summers, Jr.

Walter George Summers, Jr. , 92, of Mount Hope, WV passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Hilltop Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hilltop, WV following a long illness. Born August 08, 1921 at Sun, WV he was the son of the late Walter G. Summers, Sr. and Margaret Summers Bouchard. Mr. Summers was a 47 year employee of the New River Company. Following his retirement, he served as a volunteer at Raleigh General Hospital for several years. He was a member of the Beckley First Baptist Church. A former Mount Hope city councilman he was also a member of the Housing Authority. He was past Worshipful Master and a 50 year member of the MacDonald Lodge No. 103 A.F. & A.M. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert S. and Roy T. Summers and two sisters, Goldie Baker and Margaret McClung. Survivors include wife of 72 years, Nancy Thompson Summers. They have a daughter, Carol Lynn Haimberger, her husband, Gerhard and their son, Fritz. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Home on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 422 Neville Street, Beckley WV 25801 or the Mount Hope Foundation.
