Vivian Marie Burgess Jones, 87, of Westminster, MD formerly of Oak Hill, WV died Friday, December 11, 2009 at her place of residence, Sun Valley Assisted Living, of dementia. Born October 25 1922 in Minden, WV she was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Gracie Albaugh Burgess. Mrs. Jones, the eldest of two children, grew up in Minden and Oak Hill. She was proposed to on the Thurmond sandbar by Herbert Jones whom she married in July 1946. They were married almost 56 years at the time of his death in 2002. Mr. And Mrs. Jones lived in the Oak Hill area until moving to Maryland in 1959. Vivian worked for Montgomery Ward department store in Wheaton, MD for nearly twenty years before retiring back to Oak Hill. Along with her husband, Mrs. Jones was actively involved in the rebuilding of the old Minden Church which has become the Minden Community Center. Working tirelessly with many others, they saw their dream come true. She was also one of the Vice Presidents of the Minden Community Center. Mrs. Jones was a long time member of the Oak Hill Methodist Church and the WomenÂ’s Group (3FÂ’s.) Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Rutherford and husband, John of New Market, MD; son Robert W. Jones and wife, Amy of Mt. Airy, MD; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Rutherford Barbour and husband, Pat of Apex, NC, Michele Rutherford Smith and husband, Mickey of Monrovia, MD, Ian Mathew Jones and wife, Courtney of Damascus, MD, Zane Daniel Jones of New York, Owen Kellett and Rory Hunter Jones of Baltimore, MD, Megan Elizabeth Jones of Union City, Michigan, Heather Christine Jones of Mt. Airy, MD; great grandchildren, Jordan Jane Smith and Allen Smith of Monrovia, MD and Emily Hannah Barbour and Rylee Grace Barbour of Apex, NC. Her son, Herbert David Jones of Damascus, MD and a brother, Clyde Burgess also preceded her in death. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, Dec 16, 2009 at the Minden Community Center with Rev. William Slates officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.
