Vincent Curtis Sundstrom , 95, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at CAMC - Memorial Division in Charleston, WV.
Born August 24, 1918 at Louisville, NE he was the son of the late H. H. and Ellen Amanda Sundstrom.
His grandparents emigrated from Sweden in the 1800's. Vince grew up in Louisville, NE and after graduating from high school there he entered the University of Nebraska. In 1941 he was drafted into the US Army. He served in the Signal Corps as a Master Sargent and was stationed in Camp Lee, VA and in Hawaii before being discharged in 1945.
Vince came to West Virginia in 1948 to work in the coal industry where he was employed for 32 years working in both Fayette and Nicholas counties and retiring from Hawks Mining Company in 1982.
In 1950 he married Jo Ann Foreman and they moved to Oak Hill where they became active members of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church. Vince served in many capacities at the church but he especially enjoyed his duties as usher - greeting members of the congregation on Sunday for 55 years. He was a former member of the Oak Hill Lions Club and a current member of the Plateau Club.
A sister, Esther Davis and brothers, Clem Sundstrom and Herb Sundstrom preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving family which include his wife of 63 years, Jo Ann Foreman Sundstrom; two sons, Philip Sundstrom and wife, Sarah of Fayetteville and Mark Sundstrom and wife, Cynthia of Fayetteville and two granddaughters, Angela Sundstrom and Emily Sundstrom.
In keeping with his wishes Mr. Sundstrom was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. William Slates and Dr. Charles Miller officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
