Velma Loretta Waugh Newton, age 83, of Cedar Bluff, VA formerly of Scarbro, WV passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. She was born in Denton, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late Howard and Herma Stewart Waugh. Mrs. Newton was a fulltime homemaker, a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Newton; son, Douglas Newton; son in law, Douglas Scherer; and nine brothers and sisters. Those who remain to carry on her spirit are her daughters, Martha “Starchie” Price and husband David of Columbia, SC, Pam Childers and husband Dale of Pounding Mill, VA and Carla Scherer of Pounding Mill, VA; sisters, Grace Pittman and Yvonne Leffel both of Oak Hill; brother, Harry Waugh of Oak Hill and grandchildren: Rhonda Wilson, Clint Hayslett, Adam Childers, Ashlea Childers, Hailey Scherer and Noah Scherer. Ten great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Tyree Funeral Home located in Oak Hill with Pastors Mark Brooks and Clint Hayslett officiating. Interment will follow at the Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Oak Hill. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 6-9 pm at the Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.
