Tom R. Spears

Tom Ray Spears, 89, of Mount Hope, WV died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, WV after a short illness. He was born February 19, 1920 at Cribs, WV a son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Hallie Armstrong Spears. Tom was a used and new wholesaler and retailer. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Pax. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, was a former Merchant Marine and a World War II US Army veteran of the 81st Ordinance serving in the South Pacific. His son, Tom Ray Spears, Jr., a grandson, Jody Dale Spears, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mary Frances Wright Spears; three daughters, Felicia Dianne Wood of Prosperity, Denise Chafin and Jamie of San Diego, CA, Geneva Lessie Hodge and Clarence of Lewisburg; daughter-in-law, Lanoma Spears of Beckley; grandchildren, Eric Spears and Jennifer of Sykesville, MD, Todd Spears and Jennifer of Canton, GA, Ashley Adams and Arcel of San Diego, CA, Jeremy Adams and Jessica of San Diego, CA, Brian Hodge and Michelle of Beckley, Aaron Hodge of Beaver; Stephanie Adkins and Paul of Huntersville, NC, and Tonya Pelphrey of Huntersville, NC and great grandchildren, Morgun and Rhianna Spears of Canton, GA, Sophia and Isabella Balderas of San Diego, CA, Catelyn Hodge of Beckley and Marshall Adkins of Huntersville, NC. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mount Hope with Minister Adam Davis officiating. Burial will follow at the Pax Community Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by VFW Post #3110, Oak Hill . Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
