Thomas "Tom" Edward Aiello, 53, of Fayetteville, WV died on Wednesday, June 09, 2004 at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. Born April 12, 1951 at Gauley Bridge, WV he was the son of Mary Evans Aiello Mathys of Fayetteville and the late Joseph Aiello. Mr. Aiello was currently serving as the Fayette County Assessor. He was also a former Fayette County Magistrate from 1980 to 1988 and had been employed by Tyree Funeral Home from 1969 to 1980. He attended the Kesler Memorial Presbyterian Church, Hico, WV. He was a 1969 graduate of Collins High School, Oak Hill and attended Beckley College and WV Tech. Tom was a member and past president of the WV Association of County Assessors, recipient of the Ralph C. Broyles Memorial Award from the State Tax Department in 1999 and the Lighthouse Award from the WV Assessors Association in 1995. He was past president and member of the Board of Directors for the WV Association of Counties and a member of the WV Elected Officials Association. He was past master of the Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 A.F. & A.M.; life member of the OHHS/CHS Alumni Association; former member of the Oak Hill Volunteer Fire Department; board member, past president and former coach with the Oak Hill Little League program, and served on the Board of Directors for Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, William H. Mathys. Survivors include his mother, Mary Aiello Mathys and Shad Dummitt of Fayetteville, his son, Brandon (Michelle) Aiello of Fayetteville, a daughter, Andrea Beth Aiello of Oak Hill; his former wife, Brenda Dempsey Aiello of Oak Hill. He was also survived by a sister, Maria A. (Jerry) Epperly of Oak Hill; step-brothers, Jim (Martha) Mathys and Mark Portman ; step-sisters, Jane (Wayne) Van DeWalker; Judy Mathys Kowalik and Jean Mathys; by one grandson, Blake Joseph Aiello of Fayetteville and three nieces, Kelly, Lindsey and Leah Epperly. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Sunday, June 13, 2004, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 9:00 pm and on Monday, June 14, 2004, at the Oak Hill High School Auditorium from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Services will be on June 14, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Oak Hill High School Auditorium in Oak Hill. with Rev. Jim Dempsey officiating. Burial will be at Kesler Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Hico WV with Masonic graveside rites by Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 A.F. and A.M. Employees of the Fayette County Assessors Office will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Tom Aiello Memorial Fund, C/O United Bank, PO Box 179, Fayetteville, WV 25840.
