Thomas Ballard Thorne

September 4, 1953 — November 15, 2019

Thomas Ballard Thorne (Tommy), 66 of Price Hill departed this world peacefully at home on November 15, 2019. Thomas was 11-generation direct descendant of the renowned William Thorne signer of the Flushing Remonstrance in the year of our Lord 1657. The Flushing Remonstrance is regarded as the precursor to the U.S. Constitution provision on freedom of religion in the Bill of Rights or 1st Amendment. William Thorne's descendant's number in the thousands and has been intertwined in all major historic events throughout our nations history from the 1630's up to and including today.

Thomas was the beloved son of George and Virginia Mills Thorne who has proceeded him in
an earthly departure. Thomas was born September 4, 1953, Oak Hill, West Virginia. Thomas began working for the City of Mount Hope while he was attending Mount Hope High School.
Thomas worked in the Mount Hope's Water Department for more than 30 years. After over 30 years of loyal and faithful service Thomas was maligned by an unscrupulous new mayor and replaced by a political appointee. Thomas was a benevolent individual and well respected and like by those who knew him best and enjoyed discussing family involvement in historic events of America.

He was always ready and willing to discuss his many relative's involvement in shaping America as a nation. Thomas would point out that he had relatives that were with George Washington and some which opposed separating from England. He talked further about Relatives being on both sides during the Civil War and how Frost Thorn (a relative) funded the army of Sam Huston during Texas fight for independence. Thomas was an ardent admired of William Thorne Sr. web page and studied it often. Thomas will be fondly remembered and sorrowfully missed by all friends and relatives.

Those left to cherish his memory are his long-time companion Lori Donell and two sons, Brian Donell of Pax and Robert Donell of Oak Hill. Surviving brothers and sisters are, Euva L Grubb, of Medina, Ohio, Margaret J. Rice, of Mount Hope, WV., First Sgt Arthur L Thorne United States Marine Corps retired Jacksonville, NC., Johnny J Thorne, Scarbro, WV., Sgt Major Jimmy R. Thorne Sr., Williamstown, Ky., Frances K Rice, Mount Hope, WV., and Raymond L Thorne, Hilltop, WV. Thomas had 8 brothers and sisters that preceded him in death. They were Milton, Flora Marie, Dorothy, Paul Edward, Margie, Clara, Lilly and Thelma. Thomas has 32 nephews and nieces living in several different states.

Services will be on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Pastor Frank RIce, Jr.and Pastor Jessie Parker officiating. Burial will be at Pax Community Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 11:00 am until service time.
