Thomas Jefferson Hughes, 80, of Wellington, OH formerly of Kincaid, WV died on Sunday, May 02, 2004 at his home in Wellington, OH following a long illness. Born January 09, 1924 at Dixie, WV he was the son of the late Robert and Virgie Jones Hughes. Mr. Hughes lived in New London, OH since 1979 coming from North Ridgeville. He worked as a rack maker at the Fisher Body plant in Elyria for 26 years retiring in 1984. He attended the Rochester Baptist Church. Thomas was graduate of the MCI School of Electronics. He was a member of the Lorain County Sheriffs Department and was a firearms instructor for them and the North Ridgeville Auxillary Police. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and computers. He was a World War II US Army veteran having served under General George Patton. He was preceded in death by his a son, Paul D. Hughes and a sister, Vivian Payne. Survivors include wife, Elsie Smith Hughes; son, Wayne Hughes of New London, OH; daugher, Karen (Roy) Keffer of Wakeman, OH; sister, Genevieve Kincaid of North Ridgeville, OH; grandchildren, Julie (Bob) Keffer Shaw of Wellington, OH and Jennifer (Joe) Keffer Bottomlee of New London, OH; great grandchildren, Dustin and Mathew Bottomlee and Brice Shaw; step grandchildren, Lydia and Brady Shaw. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 5, 2004, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Services will be on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at 11:00 am at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Bill Menefee officiating. Burial will be at Kincaid Cemetery, Kincaid WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3110, Oak Hill. Memorial contributions may be made to Rochester Baptist Church, 207 State Street, North Rochester, OH 44090.
