Tella Morris Blake
November 20, 1921 — September 4, 2014
Tella Mae Morris Blake , 92, of Mt. Nebo, WV went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 04, 2014.
Born November 20, 1921 at Page, WV she was the daughter of the late Harry and Carrie A. Settle Morris.
Her husband of 66 years, Okey Paul Blake preceded her in death on April 26, 2013. Brothers, Lewis Morris, Joseph Morris, Harry "Tom" Morris and Issac Herbert "I.H." Morris and half brother, Marcellus Mitchell also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter, Debra Blake Wilson and husband, Philip L. Wilson; step grandchildren, Philip Lee and Tammie Wilson, Chad and Stacey Wilson Jackson, and Jamie and Katie Wilson; and step great grandchildren, Tanner Cox, Tyler Sedlock, Hannah Jackson, Hunter, Dylan, Savanna and Kyla Wilson.
She is also survived by sisters, Imogene Caldwell and Gloria Ann Monroe and a host of nieces and nephews.
Tella worked at Page Mining Company Store during World War II. It was there after the war that she met the love of her life, Okey. They were married on April 5, 1947.
She surrendered her life to Jesus in February 1952 at the Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans. Tella and her husband both committed their lives to Jesus that day.
Mrs. Blake worked for Milburn By-Products Company Store until the early 1950's. In 1955 she and Okey moved to Holden so he could accept a position with Island Creek Stores Company. They lived there until 1982 when Okey retired and they moved to Beckley. Tella was a full time wife and mother after their daughter, Debra, was born.
She was a member of the Beckley Regular Baptist Church where she attended faithfully while living in Beckley, She enjoyed the Senior Citizen group meetings on Tuesday.
Tella enjoyed cooking, reading, shopping, and traveling...she kept a suitcase packed in case someone invited her on a trip. She and Okey lived at The Summit at Hidden Valley from May 2012 until March 2013. She was welcomed into the home of her daughter and son-in-law at that time and lived with them until a few days before her Homegoing. Her final days on earth were spent at The Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
She will be missed by her family but they are comforted by the knowledge that "Those who live in the Lord never see each other for the last time."
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Bowers Hospice House for the care and compassion shown to Tella and her family.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Philip Wilson (son-in-law) and Pastor Steve Beverly officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
