Susie Phillips Canterbury

Susie Evelyn Phillips Canterbury , 89, of Oak Hill, WV died on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.

Born November 17, 1925 at Mount Hope, WV she was the daughter of the late Troy Preston and Ruby Lilly Willis Phillips.

Mrs. Canterbury had worked at Beckley Manufacturing and at Hamilton, Burgess, Young and Pollard for 17 years. She was retired from the Fayette County Board of Education.

She was a member of the Oak Hill First Brethren Church and the Pea Ridge Church of God Dorcas Ladies Missionary Group.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert William Canterbury; sisters, Ruth Vance, Clora Mae Phillips and Truman Alice; and brothers, Cecil Phillips, Lenzy Phillips, Troy Preston Phillips and Leon Phillips.

Survivors include three sons, Lawrence Canterbury of Oak Hill, James Canterbury of Oak Hill and Charles Canterbury of Fayetteville; one sister, Maggie Dixon of Oak Hill and Robert Phillips of Ohio.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; her special caregiver and niece, Anna Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Delmas Wolfe and Rev. William Skeldon officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
