Sue Ann Dodd Corder, age 66, of Oak Hill, WV passed away on Wednesday, September 3rd, at Charleston Area Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Sue was born on April 4th, 1948 at Minden, WV, the daughter of the late Ralph E. Dodd and Ida M. Canterbury-Dodd.
She is survived by a loving family which includes her husband, Otis M. Corder, Jr.; her son, Timothy W. Corder, of San Diego, CA; one brother, Reginald E. Dodd and wife, Terri of Oak Hill; two sisters, Gloria Dodd Wallace, of Murietta. CA, and Polly Dodd Reynolds and husband, Lewis, of Fayetteville and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Stephen E. Corder and one daughter, Pamela G. Corder.
Sue graduated from Collins High School in Oak Hill in 1966. After graduation, Mr. and Mrs. Corder married and moved to Virginia, where they lived for over 40 years before returning to Oak Hill in 2007. While in Virginia, Mrs. Corder worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgran, VA, and was an active member of the Ferry Farm Baptist Church, in Fredericksburg, VA. She also worked, for a number of years, as a Claims Adjuster for the Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) at their Operations Center in Stafford County, VA.
After returning to Oak Hill, Sue was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She also enjoyed knitting with the ladies in her church, working crossword puzzles, and baking. She was known for her chocolate chip cookies, her warmth and kindness, and her fun-loving sense of humor.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Bryan Knight officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley. Friends may call from 1:00 PM until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
A separate memorial service will be held at a later date at the Ferry Farm Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where Mrs. Corder spent most of her adult life.
The family has requested that donations in Mrs. Corder's memory be made to the Oak Hill Baptist Church Music Fund, 613 Lundale Drive, Oak Hill WV 25901.
