Silas "Si" Bower

October 18, 1927 — May 6, 2011

Silas "Si" Bower, 83, of Crab Orchard, WV went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 6, 2011. Born October 18, 1927 at Maben, WV, he was the son of the late William and Vernie Halsey Bower. He was employed as coal miner for 40 years and attended the Oak Grove Christian Church. Si was a people person with unconditional love and never met a stranger. He was loved by everyone. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a graduate of Mullens High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Louise Wilson and his first wife, Mae Bower in 1986. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Shirley Ann Janney Bower of Crab Orchard; daughter, Susan Reed and Alan; stepdaughters, Leisha Cernuto and husband, Dwayne and Melanie Smith; grandson, Joe Cernuto and wife, Heather; great grandson, J. D. Cernuto; great granddaughter, Aly Cernuto; sisters, Enis Raymond of Tennessee and Ethel Tate of North Carolina; also several nieces and nephews. Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Joe Schmidt and Rick Absher officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV.
