Sharon Gaye Nunn, 72, of Rock Lick, a lifelong church leader, went to meet her Savior and loved ones in heaven on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018.
Ms. Nunn had fought cancer for the past several years of her life. During treatment, she had continued her service at Rock Lick Community Church and had remained social.
She is survived by a son, David M. Nunn, daughter-in law, Leslie; and two beloved grandchildren, Colten and Lauren Nunn all of Hampstead, MD; and by George Shuff of Minden, her best friend and soul mate. Also surviving are her sister and closest friend, Rita Shifflett (Dan) of Oak Hill; sister-in-law, Sandra Thurbon of Oak Hill; aunt Thelma McCann of Rock Lick; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, neighbors and special friends, Brenda Berry, Mildred Dancey and Betty Klingensmith.
Ms. Nunn was a leader at her church, in the 1980's, she established a youth program. For years, she oversaw Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday school and directed plays at Christmas and Easter.
Born Sept. 25, 1946 at Minden to the late Thelma and the late John D. Thurbon, both of Rock Lick, Ms. Nunn grew up at Minden. In 1964 she graduated with honors from Collins High School in Oak Hill.
Ms. Nunn worked as an administrative assistant in Fayette County Schools. She retired fron the school system in 2009 after 30+ years of service.
Along with her parents, Ms. Nunn was preceded in death and by two brothers, John “Eddie” Thurbon of Oak Hill and Paul D. Thurbon and by a special nephew, John Shifflett.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the Rock Lick Church in Rock Lick with Pastor Jerry Sears and Pastor Harry Fuller officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service at the church.
