Shara Epperly Jenkins

Shara Epperly Jenkins, 73, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at her home. Born October 17, 1935 at Cunard, WV she was the daughter of the late William P. and Zella Morton McGriff. Shara was a 1954 graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill and attended Beckley College. She was a former employee of the West Virginia Water Company and Long Airdox. A community activist, friend to animals and a true humanitarian who could always find the good in all people she was active throughout the Oak Hill area. She had been a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church since 1982. A charter member of the Quota International of the Plateau Area she had served as an officer. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Civic League and Chamber of Commerce. As the result of her tireless work as a long-time member of the OHHS/CHS Alumni Association, Shara was the 2004 Grand Honoree. A member of the Board of Directors for many years, she had held the office of Secretary and was a wonderful Historian - recording and preserving the Association's history. Her husband, David Lloyd George Jenkins in 1981, an infant daughter, Karla Epperly and a sister, Nila Jean McGriff, preceded her in death. Survivors include companion of twenty years, Ted Maxey; son, Jerry Lee Epperly, his wife, Maria Aiello Epperly and their three daughters, Kelly Epperly, Lindsey Epperly Conley and husband, Shaun and Leah Epperly all of Oak Hill; son, Charles Epperly, his companion, Selena Aromin and her daughter, Hannah and his daughter, Christina Epperly and a sister, Mydra McGriff Maier and husband, Jack of Berlin, MD. Also surviving are a great granddaughter, Kailey Criss; three nephews, Chris, Shane and David all of the Washington, DC area and one niece, Andrea McCusker of Virginia Beach. Services will be on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Dr. Charles D. Miller officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Saturday, January 17, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Donations of sympathy may be made to the OHHS Alumni Association, PO Box 462, Oak Hill WV 25901.
