Ruth Nester Smith

Ruth K. Nester Smith, 78, of Mt. Airy, MD formerly of Minden, WV died on Friday, December 28, 2012 at her home. Born on January 15, 1934 in Minden, WV she was daughter of the late John E. and Birdie Hylton Nester. A 1952 graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill, she was crowned Homecoming Queen in the fall of 1951. She was the wife of the late Mack Harlan Smith who died on July 16, 2012. Four brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death. Ruth was the loving mother of Mark A. Smith of Germantown and Teresa Black and husband Roger of Mt. Airy, sister of Darrell Hudson Nester of Ravenwood, and sister-in-law of Barbara Gail Smith of Oak Hill. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013, at the Lakewood Church of God, 22820 Frederick Road, Clarksburg, MD 20872 where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Pastor Randy Dennis will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the above named church in her memory.
