Ruby Elizabeth Ash Hickman

October 30, 1911 — April 14, 2013

Ruby Elizabeth Ash Hickman , 101, of Mount Hope, WV passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Sunday, April 14, 2013. Born October 30, 1911 at Dun Glen, WV she was the daughter of the late Charles and Edith Jane Dower Ash. She graduated from Mount Hope High School and soon married the love of her life, Bill Hickman. Ruby loved to garden, cook and bake for her friends and family. She shared her great cooking skills with the staff and students at the Mount Hope Elementary School Cafeteria for many years where she retired. Ruby was an active member at the First Assembly of God Church in Beckley, that later changed its name to Calvary Assembly of GOD when the new church was built. She loved helping others especially in time of need. She prepared meals for the grieving along with celebrations. She taught Sunday School and was founder of the Saturday Morning Prayer Meeting at Calvary Assembly that has continued and is still ongoing for more than 17 years. As Ruby's health declined she moved into The Summit of Hidden Valley. The family would like to give thanks to all her friends and staff at the Summit for all their kindness and care the last couple of years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William J. Hickman, brothers, Charles and George and a sister, Ruth Kelly. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Jane (Wendell) Schnell, grandchildren, William (Beth) Schnell and Sarah (Joel) Dollarhide, along with her treasured great grandchildren, William, Elizabeth, Joel, Benjamin, Olivia and Gracie. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Bose Mikkilineni and Kim Mikkilineni for all their love, care and friendship they gave to Ruby. Also, remembrance and thanks to her extended family and friends at Calvary Assembly of God in Beckley. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Calvary Assembly of God in Beckley with Pastor John K. Jordan officiating. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Oak Hill. Visitation will be held at Calvary Assembly of God, Beckley on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
