Roy A. Tyree

Rev. Roy Alex Tyree, 90, of Mount Hope, WV died on Monday, April 16, 2007 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born March 19, 1917 at Maple Fork, WV he was the son of the late Mason and Amanda Bell Davis Tyree. Mr. Tyree was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA, District 17. He was also a retired Baptist minister with over 50 years service. Rev. Tyree officiated a host of weddings and funerals over the years. He pastored at Terry Community Church, Weirwood Community Church, Willis Branch Community Church, Naoma Free Will Baptist Church, Fairdale Free Will Baptist Church, Maple Fork Community Church (3 times), Rock Lick Community Church, Oak Grove Baptist Church at Backus Mountain, Layland Community Church, Zickafoose Memorial Church at Landisburg, Charmco Free Will Baptist Church, North Baptist Church at Sand Branch and the Spruce Tabernacle. His ministry was broadcast on WOAY Radio for 23 years and WOAY TV for 2 1/2 years. He was preceded in death by his his wife, Ruby Craddock Tyree on December 12, 2003. He was also preceded by a grandson, Brian Jay Bolen and a sister, Madge Tyree Davis. Survivors include eight daughters, Barbara McBrayer of Cleveland, OH, Carol Maynor and husband, Lynn of Artie, WV, Doris Lawrence and husband, Danny of Clear Creek, WV, Pat Miller and husband, Don of Stockton, NJ, Betty Becker of Shamokin, PA, Irma Denroche and husband, Norm of Manchester, NJ, Mary Bolen and husband, Floyd of Cool Ridge, WV and Joyce Usher and husband, Chris of Havre De Grace, MD; four sons, James Tyree of Maple Fork, WV, Bobby Tyree and wife, Rosetta of Maple Fork, WV, Charles Tyree and wife, Nancy of MacArthur, WV and Rev. Jerry Tyree and wife, Patty of Cirtsville, WV; one brother, Bobby N. Tyree and wife, Elizabeth of Morongo Valley, CA; one sister, Lucille Kincaid and husband, Sam of Oregon; twenty seven grandchildren, thirty five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope on Thursday, April 19, 2007 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Services will be on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Rev. Robert Barley officiating. Entombment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity WV. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
