Our beloved husband, father and grandfather Ronald Wilson Long, 70, of Lochgelly, WV died on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at his home after a courageous six year battle with prostate cancer. Born April 05, 1937 at Pittsburgh, PA he was the son of the late Wilson Boyd and Florence Eleanor Bierlein Long. Dr. Long was a retired Professor of History for West Virginia Institute of Technology with 34 years service. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Oak Hill where he was the Fellowship Class teacher for 28 years, a church board member, former usher and served on the Missionary Council. Ron was an avid golfer at White Oak County Club. He was excellent carpenter and referred to himself as an gentlemen gardener. He had an impish sense of humor and a great love of chocolate. He lived and died as a Christian example for his family and all who knew him and was courageous and strong until his last breath. Survivors include wife, Marlene Patricia Gerstel Long; one son, Scott Wilson Long at home; one daughter, Julie Anne Long-Cook of Lochgelly, WV; one brother, Blair E. Long of Wapwallopen, PA; one sister, Nancy Jane Wilkes of Monroeville, PA; three grandchildren, Meghan, Dylan and Larkin and two nieces. Services will be on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Church of the Nazarene in Oak Hill with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill WV. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Friday, August 24, 2007 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
