Roderick "Rick" Smith

Roderick "Rick" Ryan Smith, 51, of Mount Hope, WV died on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA following a short illness. Born June 29, 1953 he was the son of Roberta Jean Pettyjohn Smith of Greenbelt, MD and the late Robert Smith. He was a coal miner employed by Peabody Coal, Wharton, WV. Mr. Smith was a Baptist by faith and a member of the UMWA, Local 781. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Wykle Smith; sons, Henry Keith Wykle of Mount Hope and Christopher Lee (Christy) Wykle of Mount Hope; brothers, Reginald "Reggie" (Terry) Smith of Texas, Randy Smith of California and Rusty Smith of Greenbelt, MD. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Tessa, Louren, B.K., Patrick, Josh and Dustin. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope on Sunday, July 18, 2004, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Services will be on Monday, July 19, 2004, at 11:00 am at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Rev. Ed Skaggs officiating. Mr. Smith will be cremated following the service.
