Robert C. Thomas, Sr.

Robert C. Thomas, Sr.,83, of Oak Hill, WV died Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV Born December 8, 1924, at Charleston, WV, he was a son of the late William Caddo and Melinda Jackson Thomas. He was a retired lead machinist for the C & O Railway for 23 years. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II he attained the rank of Seaman 1st class and served on the U. S. S. Montpelier. Robert was a member of the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed hunting and working in his shop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lovey Florence "Polly" McClung Thomas; son, Danny Preston Thomas and a brother, Eugene Thomas. He is survived by four sons, Robert C. Thomas, Jr. and wife, Debbie, Jimmy Thomas, Wayne Thomas and wife, Sherry, all of Oak Hill, and Brian Thomas of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Thomas and wife, Cheri of Fayetteville, Michelle Cox and husband, Chad of Fayetteville, Wendy Stinnett and husband, Dave of Kincaid, JimBo Thomas of Kincaid, Brittney Thomas of Oak Hill, Lori Jasper and husband, Sam of Fayetteville; step grandchildren, Doug McClaskey, Jr. and Amber Hurd and husband, Eric of Waynesburg, PA, Cecil O'Dell and wife, Tina of Oak Hill; eleven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Sam, Jacey, Daniel, Monica, Mollie, Adian, Addison, and Kinley O'Dell. The Thomas family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia and the Bowers Hospice House. Funeral will be 2:00 Pm Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill where military rites will be performed by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110. Friends may call from 6 until 8 PM Monday, January 21, 2008 at the funeral home.
