Robert Gene Adkins, 81, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Huntington, WV, died on March 11, 2009 at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born November 03, 1927 at Cunard, WV he was the son of the late Otey and Garnet Lego Adkins. Bob had worked as a Hospital Administrator for the Huntington Hospital and as a regional manager for SCOA Industries. Bob graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1947 and was a graduate of Marshall University. An avid Thundering Herd fan, he could often be found at the old Fairfield Stadium or the Memorial Field House rooting for his beloved Herd. He was a member of the Big Green Club. Mr. Adkins also served as one of the first chapter advisors for the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at Marshall. While residing in Huntington he was a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Bob was a US Air Force veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Three brothers, William E., Kenneth and Otie Adkins preceded him in death. Survivors include his former wife and life-long friend, Jennie Lee Mason of Greensboro, NC; son, Robert M. Adkins and wife, Rhonda of Hurricane; daughter, Virginia Lee Adkins of Charleston and two grandchildren, Laura Adkins of Annapolis, MD and Mason Adkins of Hurricane. Mr. Adkins donated his body to the Human Gift Registry at Marshall University Medical School in Huntington. A memorial service will be held on March 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, WV.
