Richard "Doc" George Holliday , 79, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.
Born September 29, 1936 at Beckley, WV he was the son of the late Raymond W. Holliday and Sesta G. Pennington.
Mr. Holliday was a 1954 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and a U.S. Navy veteran having served with the 6th fleet aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain during the Korean conflict.
He lived in Maryland for 20 years. After returning to West Virginia, he was employed by Meadow Gold Dairy, Greyhound, drove a tractor trailer driving through all 48 contiguous states, and also was a Raleigh County school bus driver for 14 years. When asked what his dream job was - he replied "school bus driver."
The family extends their thanks to his caregivers, Freda Adkins and Mary Hamilton, Hospice of Southern of Southern West Virginia - nurses Carrie and Stephanie and the staff of Bowers Hospice House.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John L. Holliday.
Survivors include wife, Linda Allport Holliday; daughter, Deborah Holliday and husband, Tim Pressley of Charlotte, NC; son, Rick Holliday and wife, Christy of Fayetteville; stepdaughter, Mindy Allport-Settle of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren, Rebekah, Caleb and Joseph Holliday all of Fayetteville; two sisters, Beverly Dickson of Laguna Niguel, CA and Brenda Hornfisher and husband, Eugene of Signey, Mich.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. David A. Sneed officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
