Ralph Edward Wheeler, 51, died from an apparent heart attack on Thursday, April 1, 2004, at his home in Oak Hill. Born January 3, 1953, in Fayetteville, he was the proud son of Joan K. Todd of Beckley. A 1971 graduate of Fayetteville High School, he was Director of Maintenance at Raleigh Center of Daniels. He was the 2002 Regional Maintenance Director of the year for Genesis Healthcare the parent company of Raleigh Center. Mr. Wheeler served in the United States Air Force in the Viet Nam War and was honorably discharged. Loving survivors include his mother, Joan K. Todd, of Beckley; sisters Sharon K. Johnson of Beckley, Lynn Mauritz and husband Frank of Oak Hill, Tammy Jo Painter and husband Tolbert of Sissonville; and brother Charles W. Wheeler and wife Carla of Knoxville, Tennessee; and several devoted nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2004. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 4, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home with the Reverend F.D. Sexton of the Beckley Church of God officiating. Burial and graveside service will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3110. Pallbearers will be Ralph's lifelong friends Raymond "Corky" Duncan, Harold "Pooch" Duncan, David "Wimp" Duncan, Tommy Brown, John Bone and nephew, Michael Wheeler.
