R. L. Scarbro, 90, of Rt 1 Fayetteville, WV died on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 at the home of his son, Fred. Born November 12, 1913 at Mossy, WV he was the son of the late Lonnie Frank and Alena Aliff Scarbro. He was a retired coal miner having worked at Kaymoor. Mr. Scarbro was a member of the UMWA. He was well known for giving quarters to kids which earned him the nickname "Quarter Man." He served in the US Army during World War II. His wife, Violet Pearl Wriston Scarbro, preceded him in death on on Aug 20, 1999. Survivors include sons, Fred (Tara) Scarbro of Oak Hill, Ronnie Scarbro fo Jacksonville, FL and Terry (Rhonda) Scarbro of Beckley; daughters, Gladys June Lightsey of Oak Hill, Carol Sue (Max) Scarbrough of Beckwith and Marsha (Fleming) Huddleston of Oak Hill; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak HIll on Friday, August 6, 2004, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Services will be on Friday, August 6, 2004, at 3:00 pm at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill WV.
