d. June 19, 2005

Philip K. “Pork Chop” Booth, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, died at home in Charleston on Sunday, June 19, 2005. A son of Sarah Kerby Booth of Oak Hill, WV and the late William Hobart Booth, Pork Chop was born in Oak Hill, WV on Sept. 26, 1949. He attended Catholic school through the eighth grade in Oak Hill, was a 1967 graduate of Collins High School, Oak Hill, WV and earned his BA in art from Concord College, Athens, WV. He was a member of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral, Charleston, WV. Pork Chop is survived by his wife of 26 years, Amy, and their children, Mac and Blair, all of Charleston. One of seven children, Pork Chop was preceded in death by his brother, William Hobart “Jocko” Booth. In addition to his wife and children, Pork Chop is survived by his brother Jocko's wife, Becky Booth of Oak Hill, WV, and their two daughters; sister, Frances Booth Allport of Lexington, KY, her husband, Eugene, and their two sons; brother, James Rodney Booth of Coral Springs, FL, his wife Karen Thomas Booth, and their two daughters and one son; sister, Cynthia “Sam” Booth of Moorehead, Minn.; sister, Carol Gonzales of Fayetteville, WV, her husband, Paul, and their two daughters; brother, Thomas C. Booth of Oak Hill, WV, his wife, Jeanay, and their daughter and son. Pork Chop's other close relatives include his father-in-law, Bill Pittman of Charleston, WV and family friend, Betty Tincher; brother-in-law, Bradley Pittman of Charleston, WV along with his four daughters and one son and family friend, Donna Lipscomb; brother-in-law, Will Pittman of Stewartsville, NJ, his wife, Debbie Pasquarelli Pittman, and their son and daughter; close friend, John Jarvis, and numerous other relatives and friends. Irrepressible and gregarious, Pork Chop trusted in God, treasured his family, never met a stranger and loved hugely. He will be remembered with humor and affection by those who were touched by his beautiful heart and positive spirit. In addition to being devoted to his family and enjoying spending quiet time at home with them, he took pleasure in the simple things in life - playing golf with his son and friends, buying Tudor's biscuits for his daughter, running errands for his wife, rooting for the Charleston Catholic High School baseball team, wearing bright colors, buying endless numbers of hotdogs and candy bars to give away to anyone nearby and celebrating others' successes and grieving with them in their losses. Pork Chop's life will be celebrated with family and friends at 7:00 PM Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral in Charleston with Father P. Edward Sadie officiating. The memorial service will be followed by a reception with light refreshments in the Commons at Charleston Catholic High School. At the family's request, attendees should wear their brightest colors, spreading sunshine and hope, in honor of Pork Chop. Additional visitation will occur from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon Friday, June 24, 2005, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Pork Chop's name to the Charleston Catholic High School Gym Fund or HOPE (Housing Outreach Project Express,) c/o CCHS, 1033 Virginia St. E, Charleston, WV 25301, or to a charity of your choice.
