Peggy M. Dorsey, 88, of Mount Hope, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown after a year-long illness. She was born March 31, 1926, at McDonald, WV, to the late Verner L. and Zelma E. Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Ralph J. Dorsey; her sister, Jean Martin Donahoe; her two brothers, William M. Martin and Edward J. Martin, and their respective spouses, Betty Martin and Jewell Martin; and her former son-in-law, John J. Krupowicz, Jr. Peggy is survived by her children: Mary Jean (Everett) Taylor, Ben (Janie) Dorsey, Jane (Gary) Sutphin and John (Robin) Dorsey; her brother, Robert L. (Sue) Martin; her sister, Patricia M. (Malcolm) Parker; her grandchildren: Meredith (Jeremy) Stover, Brett Sutphin, Jennifer Sutphin, Christopher (Lisa) Dorsey, Jeremy (Elizabeth) Dorsey, Benjamin (Jessica) Dorsey and Jonathan (Bethany) Dorsey; and her great grandchildren: Jackson and Addison Stover, Evelyn Dorsey, Madison and Parker Dorsey. She also is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews of her extended Dorsey, Feazelle, Martin and Bridgette family. Peggy was a graduate of Mount Hope High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College. While at Wesleyan, Peggy was a charter member and first vice president of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She also played on the women's field hockey team. Peggy retired from the Fayette County School System as an English teacher at Mount Hope High School. Her children and former students knew she was not shy about correcting grammar, but more importantly, she was an inspiration for several generations to live with faith, with purpose and with integrity. In addition to her professional life, Peggy was a 65+ year member of the Mount Hope Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder, Clerk of Session, member/director of the choir and member/leader of the Women of the Church. Peggy served on the Mount Hope Historic Landmarks Commission, was a founding board member/officer of The Greater Mount Hope Community Fund, Inc. and was honored in 2013 for her many years of community service for the City of Mount Hope. She was a member of the Fayette Study Club, the Mount Hope Federated League, the Mount Hope Junior Women's Club, and the West Virginia Wesleyan College Emeritus Club. Peggy and Ralph assisted Ben with the operation of the Raleigh County Animal Hospital for several years. Peggy treasured her family and friends. She loved visiting on the front porch, going out for lunch and dinner, shopping at the Mall, and preparing for and hosting a party. Services for Peggy will be held Monday, June 30, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mount Hope Presbyterian Church in Mount Hope with Pastor Elizabeth Stone and Pastor Nancy Martin officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill, WV. Family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service.
