Paul Murray Nicholls, 86, of Whitesville, WV died on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Oak Hill,WV. Born December 2, 1924 at Oak Hill, WV he was the son of the late Richard Paul and Margaret Jane Murray Nicholls. He was a funeral director and owner of the Valley Funeral Home in Whitesville, WV for over fifty years. Paul was a graduate of Oak Hill High School, Oak Hill, WV and attended Hampden-Sydney College, Hampden Sydney, VA and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, Cincinnati, OH. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He sponsored the American Legion Baseball Team of Whitesville for many years and remained a past officer in the Whitesville area for the American Legion. He was a long time supporter of school and civic activities of the Whitesville area. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Yoder Nicholls; brothers, Fred Scott Nicholls of Cincinnati, OH and Samuel Alexander Nicholls of Jacksonville, FL and a brother-in-law, Jack Burk of Oak Hill, WV. Survivors include his sister, Jane A. Burk of Oak Hill, WV; his son, Larry Chapman and his wife, Dorthy of Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Dawn Marie (Gary) Deel of Morgantown, WV, Christi Lee (John) Valentine of South Charleston, WV, Brian Skaff (Jodi) Chapman of Charleston, WV and Dr. Michelle Lynn (Brian) Paterno of Charleston, WV and eight great grandchildren. A private family viewing will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill and burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. The family would like to extend gratitude to all his friends and supporters of his career in Whitesville. The family would like to say thank you to all of the caring staff at Hidden Valley and The Summit of Oak Hill.
