Otto Max Tyree of Pax went to be with the Lord, peacefully at home on December 12, 2023. Max was born February 19, 1939 in Lively, and was the eldest son to the late Lawrence Tyree and Alice Williams Tyree
Max was a 1957 graduate of Pax High School. Upon graduation, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Hamberg, Germany in the 3rd Infantry Division. He later was employed with Ingersoll Rand for many years. He owned and operated Tyree’s Barber Shop in Oak Hill and Lively, where many laughs, long tales and memories were shared.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and an unforgettable laugh. He always looked at the positive side of life by being so thankful for all of his blessings. He truly loved nature and the outdoors. He loved sitting on his porch and feeding and watching the birds. He loved taking his antique truck to car shows and listening to his 1950's music. His most precious and cherished times were those spent with his children and grandchildren, and his devoted and loving wife, Joann of 62 years. Max served many years on the Pax reunion committee with his beloved classmates and friends. He attended Packs Branch Baptist Church.
Max is preceded in death by his younger brother, Lewis Kent Tyree. Those left to cherish his memory include, his loving wife, Joann, son David Scott Tyree and wife, (Leslie), of Teays Valley, daughter, Amy Tyree Thomas (Curt), of Beckley. Grandchildren; Connor Tyree, Shawna Tyree Davee (Charlie), Hampton Thomas, and Sophie Thomas, and loving nephews, Shane Tyree, Timmy Williams, Eric Williams and niece Tammy Williams Oliver.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with the Reverend Eric Davis and Reverend Sam Vance officiating. Entombment will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
