Opal Mankin Gilbert

Opal Virginia Mankin Gilbert, 92, of Conway, SC formerly of Oak Hill, WV died on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the home of her niece, Betty Presson. Born February 15, 1915 at Bolt, WV she was the fifth daughter of the late Clyde Arkle and Mary Elsie Backus Mankin. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was part owner of the Mankin Sister's Dress Shop in Oak Hill for many years. She was a 1933 graduate of Oak Hill High School. Preceding her in death were her husband, Harry Lee Gilbert on January 7, 1998 and four sisters, Mabel Ramey, Pearl Allen, Clarice McDonald and Nellie Simms. Survivors include sister, Mary Mankin who also makes her home in Conway and by two nieces and fours nephews, Betty Presson and family of Conway, SC, Elsie Mae Davis and family of Ellerslie, GA, Ray Simms and family of Shady Spring, Skip Ramey and family of Charleston, Gene Allen of Mabscott and John Allen and family of Oak Hill. The family will have a private burial at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.
