Odis Joseph Amos,87, of Oak Hill, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill after a long illness. Born March 2, 1921 at Milburn, WV, he was the son of the late George and Lilia Kincaid Amos of Cunard. Mr. Amos was a WWII veteran having served with the US Army, most of his time in Europe, obtaining the rank of Sgt. Tec 5. After his military service, he spent many years in Chicago, Illinois and later retiring moved back to West Virginia. He graduated from Fayetteville High School and was an accomplished guitar player and was in a band. The had an early morning program on WJLS Radio in the late 1930's. Surviving are his son, Joey and granddaughter in Florida; two sisters, Flora Leek, Hico and Jeanette Stawychey of Steger, Illinois; two brothers, Lowell Amos and wife, Marie of Sun City, Arizona and George Amos and wife, Lois, Oak Hill; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill with Rev. Richard Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill where military rites will be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 PM until 8 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Family member and friends will serve as pallbearers.
