Ocie Osborne Smith

Evelyn Ocie Osborne Smith, 90, of Perry Twp., PA formerly of Scarbro, WV, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Eichers Personal Care Home, Normalville, PA. Evelyn had resided with her son (Ray Jr. – now deceased) and daughter-in-law, Martha T. Smith until her health recently declined.
Born May 3, 1928 in White House, KY she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Gertrude Arthur Osborne.
Developing a lifelong hard work ethic, she began her employment at the Company Store in Scarbro at a young age. She spent 20 years at the A&P in Oak Hill and worked 10 years as a toll collector for the Ohio turnpike commission.
She is survived by daughter-in-laws, Martha T. Smith and Deborah Smith; grandsons, Sherman R. Smith III and fiancé, Shelly and Charles E. Smith Jr.; granddaughters Merritt Stefancik and husband, Paul , Sarah Smith, and Tonya Daley and husband, John; 13 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother & sister-in-law, Ronald & Judy Osborne; and sister-in-law, Carol Osborne.
She is preceded in death by husband Sherman R. Smith Sr.; sons, Sherman R. Smith Jr. and Charles E. Smith Sr.; brother, Elmer Osborne , Oakie “Buck” Osborne, and Donald Osborne; and sisters Opal Rizer and Ardith Ellis.
In keeping with her wishes, Evelyn was cremated. A memorial service will be held in Evelyn’s honor at the First Church of God, Carlisle at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 25, 2019 with Pastor Richard Allen officiating. Interment will be at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity at that time.
