Nelson T. "Tommy" Blake

December 31, 1925 — January 21, 2015

Nelson Thomas "Tommy" Blake, Jr. , 89, of Oak Hill, WV died on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Born December 31, 1925 at Hilltop, WV he was the son of the late Nelson Thomas Blake, Sr. and Anna Elizabeth Birt Blake.

He was a retired fireman/engineer with the C&O Railroad having 40 years service.

Tommy was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church. He was a 1946 graduate of Oak Hill High School; a 50 year member of Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 A.F. & A.M., and was a member of Sewell Chapter No. 24, R.A.M., Mount Hope Commandery No. 22 K.T.; Beni Kedem Shrine, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J, USA, Fayette County Shrine Club, Winola Chapter No. 59 O.E.S. and United Transportation Union.

He was a World War II US Army veteran serving in the 15th Cavalry in the Central European campaign and received a Bronze Service Star.

A sister, Anna Louise Blake Elliott preceded him in death.

Tommy leaves behind a loving and devoted family which includes his wife of 64 years, Margie Cleo Sullivan Blake; daughter, Belinda Diane Jeffers and Jim Whitman of Fairburn, OH; son, Nelson Thomas Blake, III and wife, Joyce of Maidsville; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. David Sneed officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post #3110 and masonic rites by Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 A.F. & A.M.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Mr. Blake's memory to the Retired Ministers & Missionaries Fund. Checks should be made payable to the Oak Hill Baptist Church with a notation of the memorial on the memo line and mailed to Oak Hill Baptist Church, 613 Lundale Drive, Oak Hill WV 25901
