Nelsie was born in 1924, in Brooks, WV. Her father worked in the logging industry , so her family lived in many different communities throughout southern WV, finally settling in Glen Jean.
Nelsie could light up a room with her laughter. She was beautiful and classy with an artistic sense of style. A trailblazer, at twenty years old she began her career with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. She was incredibly successful and well respected in a male-dominated industry. As a telegraph operator, she tapped orders from Thurmond to Quinnimont to Hinton and all stops in between. She baked; she sewed; and she created beautiful quilts, cards and jewelry. She was our lighthouse, our compass, our rock.
We will celebrate Nelsie’s life on Saturday, June 19th at the Glen Jean Union Church at 2:00pm with visitation at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy and love may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia or to the Fayette County Humane Society.
