Nancy Burgess Hendrickson

Nancy Evelyn Burgess Hendrickson passed away on August 31, 2010 in her home at Sunrise Assisted Living in Decatur, Georgia. The youngest of eight children, she was born on March 25, 1917 in Scarbro, WV to the late Austin and Dorothea Bloxton Burgess. She married Gordon Hendrickson in 1949 and lived lived in Oak Hill, West Virginia until 2005 when she moved to Atlanta. Mr. Hendrickson passed away in 1981. Mrs. Hendrickson graduated from Oak Hill High School and attended Bowling Green University and Beckley College. She served as a credit manager for the New River Coal Company until her retirement. Her professional and community activities included the Business and Professional Woman's Club serving as president, Oak Hill Garden Club and various church circles, and volunteer activities. She was a member of the Scarbro Baptist church and attended the Oak Hill Baptist Church where she also sang in the church choir. She was preceded in death by brothers, Clyde Austin Burgess and Earl R. Burgess, and sisters, Bess V. Burgess, Myrtle Burgess, Opal Ruth Burgess, Catherine Burgess and Ruby Holmes. Mrs. Hendrickson is survived by her daughter Lynn Russell and grandson Eric Inkster of Atlanta and her nephew Dr. Clyde Burgess of Green Bank West Virginia and niece Katheryn Terwilliger of Willow Street, Pennsylvania. Services will be on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. David White officiating and eulogy by Bob Creed. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
