Michael Lee Bonds was born July 12, 1955, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV to the late Sidney Johnson and Willie Marie Underwood Bonds.
The youngest of seven children, he was preceded in death by two sisters Frances Marie Farley ( Ditty) and Sylvia Sidney Niday (Butchie).
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 24 years, Drema Lee Bonds; son, Michael Lee Bonds, Jr.; sisters, Peggy (Judes) Meadows of Epperly Hill, Juanita Sue Howerton of Beckley and Nancy (Gary) Soltes of Richmond, VA; and brother, Sonny (Dolly) of Sophia.
Mike graduated from Sophia High School. He recently became a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church. As a dedicated member of the Sophia VFW, Mike participated with the military rites group assisting with the funerals of many veterans and served as a trustee of the Eagles Club in Mabscott.
At one time he was employed by DuPont in Waynesboro, VA. As a proud West Virginia coal miner Mike was previously employed with Ranger Fuel and Pittston coal mines and was a member of the UMWA Beckley District #17. He faithfully attended the union meetings.
A man who never met a stranger, he was kind to everyone he met and knew. Mike loved life and enjoyed his many friends and family. His zest for life will be missed by his family and those that were blessed to know him.
It was his wish that his body be donated to the Human Gift Registry at the WV Osteopathic School in Lewisburg to be used for training new doctors.
