Maxine Cathalene Thompson

December 5, 1923 — January 14, 2011

Maxine Cathalene Thompson spent most of her 87 years as a resident of Maple Fork, W.Va. She was born to Matthew Rogers and Orvie May-Rogers on December 5, 1923 in Ethel, West Virginia. She died peacefully at the home of her oldest daughter on Friday, January 14, 2011. Maxine married the love of her life, Leo Leonard Thompson on May 30, 1941. Shortly after they were separated by the war, she worked as a Rosie Riveter because she was small enough to crawl into tight places in the planes. While her husband served in the military, stationed in California, she was a part-time restaurant manager and well liked by all her employees. After their move back to West Virginia she made many friends selling Avon and encyclopedias. One of her interests was writing snippets for the social column of the Beckley Newspaper. Maxine was a faithful member of Maple Valley Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, was active in the Ladies Circle and served as the church treasurer for a time; but her passion was teaching little ones in Sunday school for 20 plus years. Maxine always had a listening ear and was a cheerleader for the underdog. She is greatly loved and will be missed by her family. Leo and Maxines three girls and their husbands: Ellen and ( George ) Davis, Jill and ( Mike ) Romick and Karen and ( George ) Stamper. grandchildren: Jeremy and Autumn Davis, Sarah and David Randall, Rachel and Matt Crews, Jordan Davis, Rebecca Romick, Donna and Russell Terpstra, Terri Romick, Randall Stamper, April and Michael Tipton, and great-grandchildren: Addison and Noelle Davis ; Ethan, Megan and Gage Randall; Johnathon and Kimberly Terpstra. A service in her honor will be held at the Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 17, 2011 with Rev.
