Mary Sue Thurman Anderson died peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2009 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV after a short illness. Born May 9, 1924 at Mount Hope, WV she was the daughter of the late Charles and Oma Pennington Thurman. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, William and Carrol and sister, Margaret Lovitz. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 62 years, William E. (Bill) Anderson, her daughter, Sandra Flint and husband Jack of Oak Hill, granddaughter, Megan E. Flint of North Carolina and grandson, Kevin W. Flint of California. Also several nieces and nephews, her wonderful neighbors and friends and her church family. A 1942 graduate of Mount Hope High School, she was a bookkeeper for New River and Pocahontas Coal Company. While working in the daytime, she earned an associate degree in business from Beckley Colllege at night. In 1962, after attending Charleston Beauty Academy, she opened Mar-San Beauty Salon in Mount Hope and remained there until her retirement. She was a member of the Mount Hope Baptist Temple where she was a deaconess and served on many boards and committees of the church. One of her favorites was decorating the church for Christmas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill with the Rev. Carlyle Blomme and Rev. David Sneed officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mount Hope Baptist Temple or the Bowers Hospice House.
