Mary J. Shelton

Mary J. Shelton, 83, of Oak Hill, WV died on Monday, September 12, 2005 at her home following an extended illness. Born January 31, 1922 in Nicholas County, WV she was the daughter of the late Ovid and Ethel Brown. Mrs. Shelton was a homemaker and dental office receptionist for her husband, Dr. James H. Shelton DDS. She was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, Oak Hill Lions Club and the New River Dental Society Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Clive and Roy Brown and a sister, Louise Mollohan. Survivors include her husband, Dr. James H. Shelton; a daughter, Joan Whanger and husband, Tom, of Newport News, VA; three sons, James H. Shelton, II and wife, Barbara, of Salem, Ind., Dr. Charles E. Shelton and wife, Mildred, of Oak Hill, WV and Richard C. Shelton and wife, Cathy, of Newport News, VA; one brother, Shirley Brown of California; fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 14, 2005, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, WV. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2005, at the Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev. David White officiating. Entombment will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
