Mary Jane Martin

April 17, 1917 — August 1, 2003

Mary Jane Webster Martin, 86, of Rock Lick, WV died on Friday, August 1, 2003 at Heartland of Beckley in Beckley, WV following a long illness. Born April 17, 1917 at Concho, WV she was the daughter of the late Thomas Elwood and Ida Mae Willow Webster. She was a member of the Summerlee Freewill Baptist Church where he husband was Pastor until his death. She was acitve with the Ladies Aide Society of the Church. She helped support her family by driving miners when her husband was injuried in the mines. Mrs. Martin was employed by the Oak Hill Police Department, when her husband was an officer on the force. She was the jail cook and answered police and fire calls. She was also in charge of blowing the fire siren. She and her husband moved to Ohio for a time and she was employed by the State of Ohio at Hawthorne State Hospital where she became an LPN. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. G.O. "Oscar" Martin; daughters, Norma Jean Twiggs and Linda Gay Lightfoot; grandson, James Twiggs, Jr.; a great granddaughter, Danielle McClish; sisters, Sally Grunenberg, Annie Normandin, Minnie Helton, Nellie Kessler, Virginia Bragg and Jessie Eairheart; brothers, Charles and Thomas Webster. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Sue Rakes and husband, Tom, of Strasburg, OH and Shirely Ann Sexton and husband, David of Dover, OH. and by 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Sunday, August 3, 2003, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm Services will be on Monday, August 4, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Bill Menefee officiating. Burial will be at Hilltop Cemetery., Hilltop, WV
