Marlene Bailey Reed

Evangelist Marlene Bailey Reed, 77, peacefully departed from this life on Jan. 30, 2013 in Oak Hill, WV where she made her home with her daughter Peggy Lambert Fink. Marlene was born on Jan. 25, 1936 at Panther, to the late Melvin and Pearl Lester Bailey. Marlene was a factory worker and apartment building manager in Chicago and a nursing assistant at Welch Emergency Hospital. Licensed as a minister in the Church of God (Cleveland, Tenn.), she was a strong voice in the Pentecostal movement in McDowell County during the 1970-90's, pastoring congregations at Edmore Village and Premier. She is the last surviving member of her original family having been preceded in death by brothers, Douglas Bailey, Marshall Bailey, Junior Bailey, Eugene Bailey, and Troy Bailey Sr.; sisters, Wayma Bailey Bryant, Betty Bailey, Helen Bailey Graham and Lorene Bailey Peak; and grandson, Charles W. Reed. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Herbert Reed; children, Peggy (Bill) Fink of Oak Hill, Henry "Bud" (Diane) Reed of Rhodell, Herbert "Pete" (Tina) Reed of South Carolina, Donald (Connie) Reed of Roderfield and David (Mary) Reed of Tennessee; a special caregiver, Yvette Dufour of Oak Hill; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, with three great -grandchildren due in 2013. A viewing will be held at the Roderfield Christian Church at 11 a.m. with graveside committal to follow in the Roderfield-Iager Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, with grandson Donald Reed Jr. giving the family eulogy, at Marlene's request. Widener Funeral Home of Northfork is serving the Reed Family.
