Mark Thompson Miller

Mark Thompson Miller, Sr., 89, of Oak Hill, WV died Friday, October 4, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born December 20, 1923 on a farm near Hans Creek in Monroe County, WV he was the youngest son of the late Samuel Reuben and Dora Thompson Miller. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Harriett Dillon, Zenith Morgan, Stella Martin, Susan “Blanche” Campbell, Samuel “Wade,” Arthur Dean, Charles “Winfred,” and Hugh.  He was also preceded by his son, James Eugene “Jimmy” Miller.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances Gill Miller, son Mark T. “Tom” Miller, Jr. and his wife Jane, daughter-in-law Janet, grandchildren (who knew him as “PaPa”) Marc Christopher Miller, Aaron Miller, Samuel Miller, Candice Miller, Lesley Miller, and Andrew Miller, as well as 7 great-grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews. Mark recently retired as President of Fayco Lumber Company, where he worked for over 65 years.  A great community leader, he gave much of his time and expertise to help others, including work with the Oak Hill Lions Club, where he achieved the rank of District Governor, the United Methodist Church, and the Knights of Pythias.  He is also a past president of the Builders Supply Association of West Virginia.  Friends may gather with the family from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.   Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Dr. Charles Miller officiating. Entombment will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, in Oak Hill, WV. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (Department 4547, Carol Stream, IL 60122-4547) or Bowers Hospice House (454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801).
