Mark Edward Grimmett ,age 57, of Mechanicsville, VA formerly of Oak Hill, WV embarked on his eternal adventure in heaven on Friday August 19,2016 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 24, 1959 in Maryland he was the son of Garman Grimmett and Barbara Legg Johnson.

Paternal grandparents, Fred and Leona Grimmett and maternal grandparents, Barbara and James Legg preceded him in death.

Mark is survived by his loving and beloved wife of 34 years, Merry Anne Grimmett; father, Garman Grimmett and wife, Corina; mother Barbara and husband, Robert Johnson; brothers, Bryan Grimmett and wife ,Beth, and Eric Johnson; aunt, Deanna Sorrell; great-aunts, Maggie Kaross and Natila Perkins; nieces , Savannah and Alex Long; nephews, Alex and Nicholas Grimmett; ; numerous cousins; numerous in-laws including his brother-in-law , James Long, and mother-in-law, Irene Neely, and his beloved cat Sophie and his cat Boots.

A 1977 graduate of Oak Hill High School, he went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky with a B.S. in marketing, a B.S. in accounting and a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He started his career as a certified public accountant at Deloitte & Touche, where he rose to the position of Senior Manager, Audit and Accounting Services. He subsequently served as an audit manager for Harcourt General Insurance Companies, Vice President of Compliance for GE Financial Assurance, and Compliance Leader of Sales and Marketing for U.S Life Insurance of Genworth Financial Inc, from which he retired. During his career he lived in Lexington, Kentucky, Orlando, Florida, and Mechanicsville, Virginia and in all places he resided he made many friends.

He shared a passion for traveling and photography with his wife and together they traveled to over 100 countries, 6 continents, most of the United States, and frequently to his beloved Walt Disney World. His photography albums and Facebook posts of his travels were eagerly awaited by his friends and family and he served as a much sought source of travel advice for his friends. He also had a lifelong passion for music, both as a listener and a musician. He particularly enjoyed playing the piano but could also sing and played bass guitar, trumpet and tuba at various points in his life. He cataloged and maintained an extensive personal music library. He also loved Christmas and combined his passion for it with his passion for travel by accumulating a large collection of ornaments, including many from his travels.

Mark will be remembered as a sincere Christian, devoted friend and wonderful husband to his wife Merry. His smile lit up every room he entered and his life made the world a better place. His wit, wisdom and kindness will be sorely missed by the friends and family he leaves behind.

Visitation will be from 7:00 P.M. To 9 P.M. On Friday, August 26, 2016 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial in Oak Hill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to one of the following: Prostate Cancer Foundation, Feedmore.org, Wounded Warriors or Robins-Starr Humane Center of Richmond, Virginia.
